In this blog, we get to know a little bit more about the big K-Beauty addict Mutiara Shofa (aka @kamuskinblog). Mutiara is from Jakarta (Indonesia) and currently in her third year of studying Dentistry. She loves watching K-Drama, particularly crime/mystery genre, and she loves pink!!

When and why did you start your IG skincare page?

I started my IG skincare page to fill my free time whilst I was on a break from college. To be honest, there was a lot going on at that time. I was at my lowest,  I found it hard to even get out of bed and a skincare routine was out of question. When I was scrolling through skincare pages, I discovered the #ABcommunity and was overwhelmed by how supportive and friendly the community is. I always have struggled to find friends to talk about my obsession with skincare, so meeting friends from the community means so much to me.

Tell us about what got you into K-Beauty:

Large pores has always been a problem of mine and Korea’s obsessed with poreless and porcelain like skin was what first attracted me to K-Beauty. My first K-Beauty product was Etude House Wonder Pore Fresher and Innisfree Jeju Blackhead Out Balm. At first, I only use one or two products but found that there was no improvement to the appearance of my pores. I learnt that there is no ONE amazing product that can fix all. I began to build up my routine and started looking for low pH cleanser, hyaluronic acid, snail mucin and sleeping masks etc. Since getting into K-Beauty, the appearance of my pores has been noticeably smaller!

What advice would you give to those new to K-Beauty and the infamous ‘10 Step Routine’?

Know your skin first. Start out by figuring which skin type you have, what your concerns are, what ingredients your skin needs and what ingredients your skin needs to avoid. I learnt that the ‘10 Step Routine’ is no more than just a trend, but your skin is unique and it’s condition won’t shift according to a trend.

Favourite Korean skincare brand(s):

Cosrx. They have an extensive line of products to tackle various skin problem. I just love how straightforward and minimalistic their ingredients are and it’s really helpful for newbies who aren’t too sure what products their skin needs. When I have problems with blackheads, I know BHA Blackhead Power Liquid is for me!

If you were stuck on a desert island, which three K-Beauty products would you take with you?

  1. Cosrx Snail 96 Mucin Essence
  2. Purito Centella Green Level Buffet Serum
  3. Commleaf Zero Made Green Cleansing Balm

Describe your skincare collection in three words

Adventurous, therapeutic, self-sufficient

Finally, what’s the best skincare advice you have ever received?

Be gentle to your skin. Our skin is an organ - it reacts when we’re treating it harshly and it calms when we’re treating it gently. Treat your skin like a friend. Learn to step back if it becomes dehydrated, tight, flaky, itchy, etc.
