Review of Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner – 100ml

Summary: I’ve been testing the Pyunkang Yul Essence Toner along with the Klairs Supple Preparation Facial Toner, and for me the Pyunkang Yul one is my favourite. I love the texture, the lack of scent and the way it makes my skin feel bouncier and hydrated. The packaging is also the best I’ve found so far for a toner to be used in the 7 Skin Method** and I find that it dispenses just the right amount of product.

**For further information on this method please see our article here.

Skin Type: My skin type is combination, acne prone and I suffer with hyperpigmentation. I don’t suffer with dry skin however I recently started a prescription retinoid treatment hence my skin is currently requiring a more hydration focused treatment

Packaging: The packaging is lightweight but sturdy. The blue bottle is chic and the 100ml size is perfect to take away on trips. The bottle dispenses the perfect amount of product for the 7 Skin Method (although I normally use 3-4 layers only) as I’ve found many other bottles release far too much product which means I can’t layer it as effectively.

Notable Ingredients:

  • Astragalus membranaceus root extract (aka. milk vetch): This acts as a powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory agent (although more research still needs to be done on this). In some scientific studies it has been shown to inhibit the enzyme ‘5-lipoxygenase’ which is used to treat psoriasis

  • Butylene glycol: This acts as a conditioning agent, but some studies have shown it could clog pores in those with sensitive skin. However I haven’t noticed any comedogenic properties of this product whilst testing this over the last month

  • Arginine: This is an amino acid, which are essential for protein building. It helps to maintain skin moisture, but also improves blood flow. This could be very beneficial to those with inflammatory conditions, as it would deliver the milk vetch to the affected areas more efficiently

Personally none of the ingredients bothered my skin although those with sensitive skin should monitor their skin for any comedogenic alternations. The short ingredient list is beneficial - this product is simple yet effective!!

Consistency and Scent: The product absorbs quickly so the 7 Skin Method can be done easily. It has a thin-medium consistency (much like water) and is non sticky. It has no scent which is something I like.

Overall Rating: I would definitely repurchase this. I think it’s going to be my Holy Grail toner!! I would rate this product 4.5 out of 5 stars

Seoul Glow: "We're so glad Beth enjoyed using this product! Like Beth has noted in her review, the ingredients list is short and simple which is one of the things we love about this product too. For us, it's one of our Holy Grail products which is why we have featured it in our Cult K-Beauty set"
